Miroslav Verbič was born in 1979 in Celje and spent his childhood in Dramlje. After earning his undergraduate degree in economics, he pursued doctoral studies at the University of Ljubljana and joined the Institute for Economic Research. During his doctoral studies, he moved to Amsterdam and independently enrolled at the University of Amsterdam to study econometrics. He specialized in mathematical economics and received a degree of M.Sc. in Econometrics in 2006. In 2007, he earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Ljubljana, with a dissertation on dynamic general equilibrium modelling. He then joined the faculty at the University of Ljubljana.

He lives and works in Ljubljana. He is a full professor at the University of Ljubljana and a senior research fellow at the Institute for Economic Research. His research work spans both the development of new theoretical knowledge and applied research that serves the needs of the economy and benefits society. In 2025, he received the Zois Award, which is the highest national honour for science in the Republic of Slovenia. His research work was recognized three times as Exceptional Scientific Achievement by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency, while he was also awarded twice for the Best Research Achievement of the University of Ljubljana. As a professor, he passes on his knowledge and experience to younger generations. He teaches econometrics and other quantitative methods at both undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Ljubljana, and also lectures internationally as a visiting professor. In his free time, he enjoys travelling and swimming, while his interests include sports, psychology and social dynamics.
