Miroslav Verbič was born on 27 April 1979 in Celje, whereas he spent his childhood in Dramlje. After graduating from secondary school, he enrolled to the University of Maribor in 1998 to study economics. Already during his undergraduate study, he started taking an interest in econometrics and mathematical economics. He earned the degree of B.Sc. in Economics in 2002.
After graduation, he moved to Ljubljana to study economics at the Ph.D. level at the University of Ljubljana. At the same time, he took the job of a research assistant at the Institute for Economic Research. During his Ph.D. study, he moved to Amsterdam, where he enrolled independently to the University of Amsterdam to study econometrics. He specialized in mathematical economics and earned the degree of M.Sc. in Econometrics in 2006. A year later, he earned the degree of Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Ljubljana with a dissertation on dynamic general equilibrium modelling.
At present, he lives and works in Ljubljana. He is employed as an assistant professor at the University of Ljubljana and as a research fellow at the Institute for Economic Research. As a researcher, he tries not only to develop new theoretical knowledge, but also to serve the needs of the economy and utilize his knowledge to benefit the society. As a teacher, he tries to transfer his knowledge, as well as his experience to the young generations. In his leisure time, he likes to travel, dance and mountaineer, whereas football, psychology and social dynamics in general are his main interests.
